About Us

Hans
Hans
Hans embarked on his automotive career unexpectedly after fixing a hippy roommate's 1955 Pontiac so it could continue it's service of delivering unusually creative ice cream deserts to the very hip denizens of late sixties San Francisco late into the night. After being proclaimed a genius, Hans, always a sucker for praise, decided it might be a way to work independently and have a lot of free time to pursue a hipper life style while awaiting the revolution. As it happened, work crowded out the life style and the revolution was not televised. Since almost every young San Franciscan had a Volkswagen Beetle of one sort or another, business boomed (some twenty years later, Hans finally figured out that they were lousy cars!). The rest is history.

Sophia Chicas

Sophia Chicas
Sophia was born in El Salvador and came to live in San Francisco in the Mission District at the age of three. She started working for Hans as a temp and has stayed for fourteen years. Starting as the office clerical person, she rapidly learned about cars and repairs and especially about people and good customer service. Her naturally bright and cheerful personality has helped make our costumers' trips to the repair shop like a visit with an old friend. Sophia is responsible for overall customer satisfaction. She has received regular and rigorous training and is a certificated automotive service advisor. Sophia lives in Daly City with her husband Marlon, baby son Tiago Caleb and nephew Enrique.

Luis

Luis Frias
Luis grew up in Marin Co. and has been an automotive professional for over twelve years. After graduating from the Automotive Training Program at College of Marin he worked for many years as a transmission specialist, moving up to service advisor. At Hans Art Automotive Luis has worked hard to develop his natural ability to help customers understand what's going on with their cars and what the technician is recommending and why. Luis is responsible for communication, production and customer satisfaction. Luis receives regular training and is also a certificated automotive service advisor. Luis is married and has a young daughter, Mia.

Henry Wong

Henry Wong
Like Hans, Henry is a native San Franciscan. He grew up in the upper Haight attending Opportunity High School. He served a long apprenticeship at Les & Yo's Mobil Uptown Garage in Japan town before moving to Hans Art Automotive in 1989. During those years Henry mastered all phases of repair for all the cars the shop works on, and then undertook the arduous task of learning diagnosis and repair of computer control systems. He is now a master in that area too. Henry has been the shop foreman for many years. He is the person who trains the other technicians and helps them handle the many problems that come up in the normal course of daily operation. This is why we are able to get your car back to you so quickly! He works in conjunction with Sophia and Luis to make sure the work is done correctly, carefully, thoroughly and on time. Henry is married and has two grown sons and a granddaughter......
